Wheelbarrow Flea Market Kart Build Off
Rat Rod Wheel Barrow Build Off!
8 Teams will compete in a timed build off to take a used wheel barrow and turn it into a Flea Market Kart. Rats Nest Run In will choose 2 of the teams. The other 6 will be chosen by a lottery system. If we get more than 6 applicants, we will put all the perspective teams into a hat, and pull out the builders. That process will start early in 2026.
Rats Nest Run in will supply the tools and raw materials to complete the build. The Karts will be judged in 3 Phases.
Phase 1.
Rendering-Each team will have 1/2 hour to come up with a drawing of the vision the have for they Flea Market Kart. The drawing must be one page, and completed on a white sheet of paper with colored crayons. The Kart rendering that is closest to the actual build will win Phase 1.
Phase 2.
Curb Appeal-The Flea Market Kart must embody the essence of a Rat Rod. No explanation needed.....
Phase 3.
Competition-The Flea Market Kart must be functional. The final test is a relay race. Each Team Member must compete in one leg of the race. Start at the Burnout Pit, the first Team Member must pull or push their Kart down Legends Alley Flea Market row to Uncle Mikes flea Market Space, load up the welder they used for the Kart build. The second Team Member will push or pull the Kart back to the Burnout Pit and unload at the Finish Line. The welder must stay in the Kart. The BuildTeam with the fastest overall time will win that Phase.

There will be 3 judges chosen by Rats Nest Run In.

Harbor Freight 125 Flux Core Welder and Welding Helmet and Gloves
Harbor Freight Plug in Angle Grinder with Grinding Wheels and Cut Off Wheels
Plug In Drill and Drill Bits
Basic Set of Hand Tools
Gloves and Safety Glasses
Rats Nest Run In will provide a shaded 10x10 space with a table and enough electric to run the welder. Also, a shield to keep the welding flash away from the spectators.
Rats Nest will provide 50 bucks to each team that they have to spend in the Legend Swap Meet Row to make their build unique. We will have 8 pre approved Flea Market vendors. A random draw will determine which vendor each team can use.
Time For Build
Teams will have 4 hours to compete the build. Phase one will begin at 10am. Phase 3 Race will begin at 3pm.
10:00-Begin Rendering
10:30-Begin Kart Build
12:00-Begin Swap Meet Shopping
2:00-SHARP Build must be complete
On Saturday Afternoon, we will auction off all the Swap Meet Karts and give that cash to a local charity.
